Copper/Nickel Sensors

Copper nickel sensors are optoelectronic devices used to detect the concentration of copper or nickel in a solution. Walchem offers copper nickel sensors in conjunction with our on-line analyzers in a variety of applications including electroless copper or nickel baths, microetch baths, and a number of other chemical solutions that contain more than 0.10 grams/liter (g/L) of copper or nickel metal. In each type – copper detection sensor and nickel detection sensor – we offer flow-through sensors for out-of-tank monitoring of solutions. Additionally, we offer immersible copper sensors for direct in-tank monitoring. Each sensor type has its specified ranges in terms of ion detection, resolution, and accuracy.

Maintenance of Copper Nickel Sensors

While our controllers are quite low on maintenance, it is essential to clean the sensors. Here are some pointers in this context.

The sensors must be cleaned periodically.
The frequency of the cleaning can be decided on the basis of installation.
If the sensor is new then regularly cleaning may not be required. In this scenario, the cleaning must only be done in conditions where 1-point calibration is difficult to perform.
Always use chemical cleaning methods, since mechanical cleaning may damage the sensor.
The optical path of the sensor must be cleaned of coatings or plate out.

The optional pH electrode for electroless nickel applications must be cleaned and calibrated regularly.
