Copper/Nickel Sensors

Copper nickel sensors are optoelectronic devices used to detect the concentration of copper or nickel in a solution. Walchem offers copper nickel sensors in conjunction with our on-line analyzers in a variety of applications including electroless copper or nickel baths, microetch baths, and a number of other chemical solutions that contain more than 0.10 grams/liter (g/L) of copper or nickel metal. In each type – copper detection sensor and nickel detection sensor – we offer flow-through sensors for out-of-tank monitoring of solutions. Additionally, we offer immersible copper sensors for direct in-tank monitoring. Each sensor type has its specified ranges in terms of ion detection, resolution, and accuracy.

Copper and Nickel Sensor Specifications

Here are specs for both copper and nickel detection sensors.

Beneficial Features of Copper and Nickel Detection Sensors

Our controller sensors can benefit your chemical process applications in various ways. Here are some benefits.

  • The concentration value may be displayed in either gram per liter (g/L) or ounce per gallon (oz./gal). You can select the unit of your choice or requirement.
  • Our copper and nickel sensors are designed for precise detection and measurements.
  • They are stable in harsh operating environments and elevated temperatures.
  • They enable fast and real-time monitoring of copper or nickel levels, leading to precise and quick analysis.
  • They have a compact design and hence are suited for controllers operated in cramped spaces.

They have a wide detection range and can be used in various mixed or contaminated samples to detect copper or nickel concentration.

Maintenance of Copper Nickel Sensors

While our controllers are quite low on maintenance, it is essential to clean the sensors. Here are some pointers in this context.

  • The sensors must be cleaned periodically.
  • The frequency of the cleaning can be decided on the basis of installation.
  • If the sensor is new then regularly cleaning may not be required. In this scenario, the cleaning must only be done in conditions where 1-point calibration is difficult to perform.
  • Always use chemical cleaning methods, since mechanical cleaning may damage the sensor.
  • The optical path of the sensor must be cleaned of coatings or plate out.

The optional pH electrode for electroless nickel applications must be cleaned and calibrated regularly.

Applications of Copper and Nickel Sensors

Here are some application areas of copper and nickel detection sensors.

  • Electroless plating
  • Microetch solutions
  • Many electroplating solutions

At Walchem, we offer copper nickel sensors separately or with controllers aside from other accessories. If you require water treatment controllers or any of the accessories including copper detection sensors or nickel detection sensors, feel free to call us
